Gentianopsis ciliata

Gentianopsis ciliata (NL: Franjegentiaan / EN: Fringed Gentian / DE: Gewöhnlicher Fransenenzian, Gefranster Enzian / FR: Gentiane ciliée) is a plant species of the Gentianaceae family. In Belgium this species is on the red list mentioned very rare and endangered with only a few growing stations left. It can only be found in grasslands on calcareous soil. The plant is 8-25 cm high and has a square stem. The ground leaves are spatula-shaped. The stem leaves are linear, but can sometimes be lanceolate and have one to three veins. The stem bears mostly only one flower. Fringed gentian blooms from August to November with blue flowers. The corolla has normally four lobes. The corolla is 2.5 to 5 cm long. The lobes have a long fringe (see image!) , hence the name Fringed gentian. The flowers are pollinated by bumblebees.
