Ramaria stricta

Posted by Johan Dierckx (Wijnegem, Belgium) on 8 January 2012 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

Ramaria stricta (NL: Rechte koraalzwam / EN: Upright Coral / DE: Steife Koralle / FR: Ramaire droite) is a fungus in the Gomphaceae family. It grows from wood but this is often buried. It features branches that are usually "strictly" oriented, so that they are mostly straight and ascending. When fresh, its branch tips are yellow and its branches are dull yellowish buff, but its surfaces bruise and discolor purplish brown. This image is made in almost the last sunlight of the day - the golden hour ...

Mooi scherpteverloop in deze foto.

@Aubélia: Met een beperkte DOF krijg je vaak een mooie indruk van diepte in de foto. Daar hou ik wel van (maar dat wist je al...) Groetjes !

Jaytee from Fresno, California, United States

Neat. I ran across some fungi that looked similar to this one last summer while on a hike.

@Jaytee: There are a number of similar looking species and it is always a delight to find some of these coral-shaped fungi. I'm glad you found some of these yourself - hope you had your camera with you ?
