Cap Gris-Nez: Blue mussel farm
The Blue mussel, Mytilus edulis, is a medium-sized edible marine bivalve mollusc in the family Mytilidae. Mytilus edulis is commonly harvested for food throughout the world, from both wild and farmed sources. Mussels are a staple of many seafood dishes in various cuisines including Spanish (especially Galician), Portuguese, French, Dutch, Belgian and Italian.
During high tide the mussel farm is completely submerged but during low tide the posts to which the nets hang with the young mussels are clearly visible. They provide an excellent photographic subject.
