Piz Palü (3,901 m) is one of the most beautifull mountains in Bernina massif.
The mountain has 3 summits on a ridge covered by a lot of ice (see image posted on 2/11/2011): E summit (3883m), central summit (3901m), W summit (3823m). The W part of the summit ridge is on the Swiss - Italian border. Piz Palü has a famous N Face with 3 rocky spurs separate by ice couloirs. The name Palü derives from the Latin "palus", meaning "a swamp", and the mountain is said to be named after the Alpe Palü, a high alpine pasture some 4 km to its east. About 25 years ago I climbed the east summit and the central summit together with my father and my oldest sister. The love for this mountain, for his world of rocks and ice, still remains today but the desire to climb has changed in the hope to make some beautiful images...
