Dolycoris baccarum (NL: Bessenwants / DE: Beerenwanze) is a species of shield bug in the family Pentatomidae. Adults growing between 1 and 1.2 cm long and the color is striking: although the insect itself is gray-brown to black, the elytra are mostly reddish-purple with a bright shield behind. The antennae are black striped white and the margins of the abdomen are spotted alternately light and dark. You can find this bug in meadows, in mixed deciduous forests, at forest edges and clearings, and often also in gardens of herbs, trees and berry bushes. During winter, the species survives hidden in the soil. In the spring they fly lively. Moreover, it can be found mainly in the period April to October.
