Adonis vernalis (NL: Voorjaarsadonis / EN: Spring pheasant's eye / DE: Frühlings-Adonisröschen) is a perennial herbaceous plant in the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). The root system is branched and ranges up to 1 meter deep. The mostly unbranched stems are upright, reaching heights up to 40 (rarely 60cm). The leaves are fine feathered. The terminal single flowers measure 4 to 8 cm in diameter. There are five broad-ovate sepals present. The ten to twenty free petals are narrow, wedge-shaped, 20 to 40 mm long, spread out and have a (bright) yellow color. The flowering period extends from April to May.
Adonis vernalis is threatened throughout Central Europe and is under protection.
