Crete 2010 #32 Chania sunset

Posted by
Johan Dierckx (Wijnegem, Belgium) on 15 February 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

In April 2010 I made a photo-trip to Crete. The main goal was surching and documenting the wild orchids and endimic flora of the Island. I already posted some of the species back in april (all images posted between 23/04/2010 and 15/05/2010).
In this series I will be posting mainly cityscapes and landscapes taken on the island during that trip.
For me it is a good occasion to review my images and select only the best and most representative ones from this trip.

15 Feb 2011 7:10am

@Michael: I'm glad you like the image, Michael. Have a nice day !

Christine from Duns, United Kingdom

Stunning, beautiful shot, excellent composition and framing

15 Feb 2011 7:26am

@Christine: I'm realy glad you like the image, Christine. It is the day after Eyjafjallajökull erupted... The orange coloring is probably the result of ashes in the atmosphere ... but at that moment we did not hear that news yet ...

Demo from Villeneuve d, France

Fantastic sunset and wonderful tones!

15 Feb 2011 8:27am

@Demo: Thank you very much, Laure and Stéphane. It is the day after Eyjafjallajökull erupted... The orange coloring is probably the result of ashes in the atmosphere ... but at that moment we did not hear that news yet ... Greetz for both of you !

Aubélia from Kortrijk, Belgium

Prachtig!

15 Feb 2011 9:09am

anne from zwolle, Netherlands

mooi, heb je een filter gebruikt?

15 Feb 2011 9:16am

Julie Brown from Indianapolis, United States

This is beautiful, Johan. I like how how you exposed the sun. Excellent use of negative space as well. Is that fog?

15 Feb 2011 10:54am

@Julie Brown: It is indeed a fog layer hanging over the see (the same layer as in yesterday's image). Both images are taken on the same spot - this one direction sun, yesterday's the other side ... at almost the same moment... Warm greetz, Julie.

Veronique from Sarrouilles, France

very good framing leaving al the place to sky

15 Feb 2011 11:32am

@Veronique: You know by now I like the sky :-))) Thanks Veronique ! Warm greetz.

Marilla from Turku, Finland

Perfect beauty and silence! *****

15 Feb 2011 1:57pm

@Marilla: I'm honored with your appreciation, Marilla. Thank you very much !!! Greetz !

Don Levesque from Saint John, Canada

Beautiful...words escapes me! Extremely well done Johan!

15 Feb 2011 2:46pm

@Don Levesque: Thank you, Don. It was the most wonderfull evening we had during the entire stay - our last one on the island.... As already stated in previous answers the coloring is due to vulcanic dust in the sky (the eruption of a vulcano on Iceland - maybe you heard about that in the news back in april last year ... - on the next day the plane direction home was cancelled so we were stuck for 5 days ... The cost of tis beautifull evening perhaps ? Greetz !

jafadabret from Annonay, France
