Crete 2010 #9 Matala beach

Posted by
Johan Dierckx (Wijnegem, Belgium) on 23 January 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

In April 2010 I made a photo-trip to Crete. The main goal was surching and documenting the wild orchids and endimic flora of the Island. I already posted some of the species back in april (all images posted between 23/04/2010 and 15/05/2010).
In this series I will be posting mainly cityscapes and landscapes taken on the island during that trip.
For me it is a good occasion to review my images and select only the best and most representative ones from this trip.

¨‘°ºO Dutçh Oº°‘¨ from Neverwhere, United States

The light in this image is amazing Johan. You got the beautiful reflections on the water as well as the golden glow rising on the rock cliffs. The star is the cherry on the top. Well done!

@¨‘°ºO Dutçh Oº°‘¨: I'm very happy with this image myself. It is a wonderful place to stay for a while. Nowing my that lens a little better now, I should have used f 16 for this shot. The star would even be better then ... Thanks for your comment, Kristen. Warm greetz !

Aubélia from Kortrijk, Belgium

Groetjes.

anne from zwolle, Netherlands

Groetjes !

Sylvia from -, Netherlands

nice effect.

@Sylvie49 capture image: Thank you very much, Sylvie. It is a very nice place to be.

Loner from Wörgl, Austria

Tolle Stimmung - super Licht - einfach schön !

23 Jan 2011 12:50pm

@Loner: The bright sunny days with totally blue sky aren't always the most suitable for nice landscape-images I think. We had some rain before that day and when we arrived at this beach the sun was back again. The strong wind made the waves splash on the beach ... Everyting just perfect for a nice image. Warm greetz for you and your husband, Sonja !

Marleen from Doesburg, Netherlands

Professionele foto van deze paradijselijke plek! (stònden ze maar zo mooi in reisgidsen...)

23 Jan 2011 2:51pm

Groetjes !

Julie Brown from Indianapolis, United States

Wonderful light and handling of the exposure. The sunstar is a bonus. I like the wide angle views of the last three images. Did you use your Sigma 10-20 for these?

23 Jan 2011 5:00pm

@Julie Brown: Indeed with the Sigma 10-20... The first time I took that lens with me on a phototrip. (I only made some experiments near my hometown with this lens). You know I mostly make macro-images so switching to UWA is a big step... But I like this lens very much. Have to do some more exploring of its possibilities but for now I'm happy with the results. Thanks for the comment again, Julie. Warm greetz !!!

Marilla from Turku, Finland

Gorgeous view! I like especially the lighting and the colours are fantastic.

23 Jan 2011 5:14pm

@Marilla: The light that afternoon was very special. We had some rain before and I think that is the reason .... All dust washed out of the sky ? Thanks for your comment, Marilla. Warm Greetz !

Matt Lomas Photography from Mansfield, United Kingdom

Great shot! Love the cliffs and the breaks, great colours, any post processing on this one?

23 Jan 2011 9:46pm

@Matt Lomas Photography: Thanks for your comment, Matt. Like almost every image in my portfolio this is an optimized raw to jpg conversion. I only use PS to add my name, resize and sllightly sharpen the image for use on the net.

Anita Pena from Bretagne, France

Magnifique !
Toute en beauté, lumière et couleurs. Une plage de rêve

23 Jan 2011 9:47pm

@Anita Pena: Thanks for your visit and comment, Anita. (I understand some French, but I hope you don't mind me answering in English). It is indeed a very nice place to stay. Too bad I only could spend a few hours there.

myky from London, Canada

A gorgeous composition...beautifully balanced and lovely lighting!

25 Jan 2011 4:02pm

@myky: This side of the rock faces north so it is always difficult to light the image proper. The sun is always on the wrong side ... Thanks for your visit and comment, Myky. Greetz !
