Plantscape #3

Posted by
Johan Dierckx (Wijnegem, Belgium) on 11 January 2011 in Abstract & Conceptual and Portfolio.

Still exploring the possibilities of Black and White photography in more graphical or abstract settings where the structures and forms of plants are the cental theme. For this purpose I use some images of previous years

Don Levesque from Saint John, Canada

Beautifully taken...looks like a very cold day.

11 Jan 2011 2:44pm

@Don Levesque: It was a realy cold day indeed, Don. Freezing and very misty (the silhouette is captured with a background of pure mist ...) It took some courage to go out with my gear to make images but after a nice cup of coffee and a hot shower afterwards I'm glad I did ...

Loner from Wörgl, Austria

Brrrrrr - kalt, aber schön !

11 Jan 2011 6:42pm

@Loner: We don't have many days of this type in Belgium and we are lucky to see some snow sometimes. I just had to grab the occasion to make some images - and cold it was indeed !!! Nice one can see the temperature in an image isn't it ?

Marilla from Turku, Finland

Very beautiful! Snow covers everything so smoothly.

11 Jan 2011 7:03pm

@Marilla: The background is not snow but just mist covering the landscape ... That is probably the reason why the background is so smooth ... Thanks for the comment, Marilla.

¨‘°ºO Dutçh Oº°‘¨ from Neverwhere, United States

Like a giant snowflake! How are you doing Johan? Are you having a good year so far?

11 Jan 2011 8:41pm

@¨‘°ºO Dutçh Oº°‘¨: My very best wishes for you, Kristen !!!! Hope to spend some more time on the site the upcomming weeks than I did last 2 month's (shame on me !!!). Photographically speaking the year has not been good so far ... weather is not very good to go out and make nature images: cold, rainy, lack of sun, ... I'm just begging for the sun now - going to be really depressed otherwise... (The only days we had some sun were days I had to go to work... grrrrrrrrr !) But clouds can't be there forever, can they ? So I'm working on some images of previous years and try to do some experiments with black and white etc ... still learning :-D

Julie Brown from Indianapolis, United States

The crystals make this special. Very nice diffused light and background.

12 Jan 2011 1:55am

@Julie Brown: The diffused light is due to the mist that day. It was a very cold day and the mist froze leaving marvelous crystals onto almost everything in the landscape, from the finest leaf to the biggest trunk ... Thanks again for your comment, Julie. Warm Greetz !
