Ischnura elegans (Lantaarntje (BE) / Blue-tailed Damselfly (EN) / Große Pechlibelle (DE) / Agrion élégant (FR) ) is a 30 à 34 mm large damselfly of the Coenagrionidae family. The species is easily recognisid by its largely black abdomen with very narrow pale markings where each segment joins the next and the entrely pale blue segment eight. The pterostigma is bicolored. In almost every European country it is a common species. This one is sitting on Lythrum salicaria, providing a nice color contrast with the damselfly.
