Series: European Terrestial Orchids

Orchis quadripunctata is a small orchid, growing on calcareous substrates like short grassland and garigue. Quadripunctata means "4 dots", an allusion on the spotted base on the lip. 2 dots usually can be found on the lip base, 2 others are hidden in the spur entrance. The species can be found in Central and Western Mediterranean.

What I really like about these flowers, about the violets I took etc.. is that.. velvety, crystallized look of the petals. They absolutely sparkle on close inspection and you captured that well here.

@Self-Indulgence: Indeed ! When one look really close, you can almost see the individual cells in petals with a nice, glassy look. I always try to capture light ... :-))))

Julie Brown from Indianapolis, United States

Very nice color and texture here, Johan!

@Julie Brown: Thanks, Julie. The orchids were really spectacular out there. Still having some dificulties to get the right names, but i'll show many, many more the coming days ...
