Orthotrichum anomalum #2

Posted by
Johan Dierckx (Wijnegem, Belgium) on 17 March 2010 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

Series: Belgian bryophyta

A detail on the same tuft of Orthotrichum anomalum (Anomalous Bristle-moss / Gesteelde haarmuts) I found yesterday. In this picture you can see the unripe capsules with their light brown calyptra. Did you notice the hairs on the capsules ? Tomorrow I will show the two central capsules in even more detail.

(Image made with 150mm macro + 1.4x extender in natural light. Image not cropped)

dang from Atlanta, United States

The backlight works perfectly.

@dang: Thanks again for your comment. I always try to seek for the most appropiate angle with the light in plant-macro's. The pictures with the front-light are in my opinion defenitely not as nice as this series. I'm glad you like it too.

khadi from New Delhi, India

Fantastic. The spores in the background look like flames. Great use of DOF.

@khadi: Thank you very much, Khadi. The closer you get into the micro-world, the more forms appear ...
